Sofia Mourão

They are three pieces I created around the concept of an inner garden, a place of free roaming where my mind gets liberated and has the room to create and project a blissful reality into existence. I created these pieces as a reaction to the current world state, and they reflect a certain need of escapism as a way to cope and to maintain a healthy relationship between the body, the spirit and the mind. Where would you like your work to take you?

I would love to work on more collaborations with writers and musicians. I really like to transform someone else's dreams and visions into reality. I would also love to work on a picture book - really just anything that brings me closer to working with other creatives.

Which part of your creative process do you enjoy most?

I think my favourite part of illustration is the sense of peace and completion you get when you're able to connect your subconscious mind to your hands, and you let your brain empty for a while. And also that spark when you discover a new technique or trick that makes you more competent to really portray what you desire.

Where do you draw inspiration from?

Mostly from my dreams (both awake and asleep) and also from childhood memories/fantasies.

What piece of music would you say compliments your work the most?

I listen to many types of music while creating but I think ''Plantasia'' by Mort Garson would be a nice tune to listen to while looking at my work.

Can you list a couple other creatives/friends/people you look to for inspiration?

I think I'm more inspired by certain periods of art history than by particular artists. Lately I've been really fascinated by the art nouveau movement.
