Nellie Fratelli
Nellie is a photographer and visual artist whose work aims to capture the human condition through experimental beauty and fashion. In her recent work she has been exploring how the integration of technology into the average human routine has affected how we are intimate with one another, and the moral implications of this. This project is delving deeper into digital intimacy by looking into AI and ‘sexbots’. The project explores kinks and power play, aiming to create conversation around the gender politics and moral implications of owning sex robots.
Where would you like your work to take you?
I think that my biggest goal is for my work to make an impact on the viewer. Editorial work really excites me, and to be creating imagery as a full-time job is the ultimate dream really.
Which part of your creative process do you enjoy most?
Nothing beats the buzz of a shoot day and seeing an idea and concept be bought to life - I love to collaborate and the energy that this brings on to a shoot. The whole process is so rewarding, and I could also play with my photos in post-production listening to podcasts forever and be content with life.
Where do you draw inspiration from?
I find that most of my inspiration comes from film, which helps inform a lot of my makeup designs and narratives that I create. I also always reference the Japanese 'Provoke' movement: I love how the photos are so confrontational and the emotions that are evoked.
What piece of music would you say compliments your work the most?
Probably that noise of a computer whirring starting up layered with some royalty-free sexy beats.
Can you list a couple other creatives/friends/people you look to for inspiration?
I am extremely lucky in the fact that I am surrounded by talented creatives every day, and have friends that inspire me massively. Jordan Hemingway is a genius, Chris Cunningham is the best and Molly Soda always comes out with amazing stuff targeting the digital self. @ella_jpeg, @lowkey_bullshit, @camargo__studios, and @moonimmischphotography have been a massive help in my work this year.
