‘The Lord of Misrule’
For this shoot I worked very closely with my family; my models were my sister and two cousins. Such close relationships are very interesting and how family members play off each other really intrigues
me. I like my models to feel relaxed in front of the camera, so that between the ‘modelling’ I can capture their relaxed more candid expressions.
A large part of the shoot for me was the prep. It was interesting to see how they reacted to me being behind the camera and with each other in front of the camera.
I am a freelance photographer and am lucky to have the time to create my own personal visions.
Where would you like your work to take you?
When creating my images I always look for colour, pattern and texture, they’re my main three things. I want my work to be a bit quirky and playful. My relationship with models is super important to me too, if we don’t click, it’s not going to work!
What do you enjoy most about a shoot?
I love to capture someone when they’re not trying to model or look perfect for the camera. I think that’s when you get the best shots. For me, I like every aspect of the images to work harmoniously. So you don’t just see the person modelling, the stylist, the scenery. Every aspect should reflect each other.
Where do you draw inspiration from?
I draw inspiration from a lot of different outlets. Books, other artists, films, plays… For example just before this shoot I watched The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and had read a Tim Walker book. Whether you see any of that reflected in this shoot, I don’t know.
Can you list a couple other creatives/friends/people you look to for inspiration?
