Sensible Music

Three Sensible gents in their roaring twenties.

Slide guitars and drum machines are Sensible Music essentials. Their style is an eclectic mix of influences; 80s new wave, electro-country and the odd punk song about seabirds. All wrapped in a tasty lo-fi coating.

All of their music and videos have been created DIY. The music video for 'The Sheep' is a low-budget homage to the film The Lighthouse (2019).

Sensible Music fledged days before lockdown 1 in March 2020, diabolical timing.

Where would you like the band to take you?

We have some wild plans and experiments for Sensible Music’s future. It definitely feels like the tip of the iceberg right now. Having fans to support our explorations is really the most we want to achieve. Breaking the <1000 stream mark on Spotify wouldn’t go amiss either.

If you could collaborate with anyone who would it be?

We’re big into films. Doing a proper collaboration with a filmmaker would be really exciting, someone with a distinct style that we admire like Mark Jenkin.

If you could have some merch what would you make?

A Sensible Pencil Case would be pretty slick. Its impossible to keep track of a loose pen so that would be a dynamite sell. I think our merch would mainly be things we need ourselves, but with our own faces on. Fantastic.

If you could play any instruments what would you play?

A lap steel is one of my favourite instruments, classic country music is one of our biggest influences and we like weaving those sounds in with modern electronics. A harmonica would be a step too far though, I reckon.

Also a fretless bass takes any track to a new level, they’re not used enough these days, time for a comeback.

Can you list a couple other creatives/friends/people you look to for inspiration?

Dan Carey’s Speedy Wunderground label. Their approach to capturing genuine moments of music and just getting things done is inspiring. They have smoke and lasers!!

Visual artists like Mark Jenkin and Bobby Beasley. They both have instantly recognisably and unique aesthetics, and they both embed their art in their hometowns which I really respect.

Speaking of hometowns, we have to give a shout out to our neighbours @hamburgermomma 🍔
