Mark Burrell

I am a Kent based artist with work in several private collections. The primary focus of my work is centred around the found object, the throw away and the seemingly mundane. Secondary, it is a documentation, distilled and refined, of places and events - real and imagined. Instagram: @markburrellartist

In the work I try to act as a go-between, finding, selecting and presenting objects for the consideration of the viewer. The process of how I work is therefore governed by the objects.

What would you like people to take away from your work?

A joy, and a certain magic in the everyday. A beauty in the ‘poor’.

Which part of the process do you enjoy most in creating the work?

That moment of excitement of finding and offering up various materials, until they begin to speak to me.

If you could collaborate with anyone dead or alive who would it be? e.g Musician, artists, composer, dancer, performance...

Tricky question - Antoni Tapies (sheer joy). Robert Rauschenberg along with Merce Cunningham (innovative and cross disciplinary work).

Can you list a couple other creatives/friends/people you look to for inspiration?

Tim Fawcett, Cathy Stocker and Steven Heaton to name but a few. All painters, all on Instagram. I was at college with Cathy many years ago, always liked her approach to making.
