Chloe Charlett

Informed by the historic uses of pots, how stories are told, and the way moments in time are documented through vase paintings. My overall theme of practice is storytelling and narrative through illustrating the mundanity of everyday life in a whimsical and playful style. I consider myself a multi-disciplinary designer, having a background in printed textiles and interest in creating hand-built pottery as accompanying pieces to my illustrations and textiles. My application involves a wide range of different pieces of work/ products, which come together as an eclectic collection of gift/ interior accessories. I create a range of goods that reflect my own interests and style. I have always found it hard to focus on one design discipline, as I love to be hands-on and create physical objects/ things that are usable in everyday life.

Where would you like your work to take you?

I would love for one day be able to have my own shop selling my own work along with others and make it a creative hub for learning new skills for all styles and disciplines.

What would you like people to take away from your work?

The aim of my work is to make people smile, as I frequently create characters as motifs which appear in many of my designs with personal stories / names attached to them.

Where do you draw inspiration from?

I draw inspiration from my surroundings, most of my research is taken from visits to other countries and general everyday life. I put a fun twist on mundanity. I am particularly inspired by all kinds of historic ceramic vase paintings, especially oriental and Victorian ceramics.

Can you list a couple other creatives/friends/people you look to for inspiration?
