Blu Selby
My name is Blu Selby and I am a young artist exploring the line between contemporary art and design. My practise often takes the form of gloves, bejewelled in different patterns. Although the gloves are wearable, I prefer to frame them – like an art piece. Using the medium of recycled leather gloves gives the gloves a sparkly second life.
I love how my process brings together my two passions, illustration and textiles.Drawing is a big part of my creative practise, I apply a lot of the same principles when creating my glove designs. I believe the gloves are a reflection of the inner workings of my brain.

Where would you like your work to take you?
I would love to put on an exhibition with all my gloves in the near future. I am excited to see where my practise will take me, currently a mystery.
Which part of your creative process do you enjoy most?
Definitely the idea generating part. I came up with the idea for my gloves when I found a singular old glove in a bag my grandma had handed down to me. I felt like the glove was just begging me to adorn it. I wanted to show its significance by making it as loud and obnoxious as I could - using my new bejewelling kit on it!
Where do you draw inspiration from?
I get a lot of inspiration from looking at already existing art. Whether I am at an exhibition or curating old pieces of my work. I often draw from previous drawings of mine: zooming in, cutting in to them, redrawing, recolouring, over and over again. Until I see finished.
What piece of music would you say compliments your work the most?
Anything that has boss woman energy. Especially, Nicki Minaj.
Can you list a couple other creatives/friends/people you look to for inspiration?
I recently did a collaboration with an amazing photographer @jamesstirrat. I really like the candid nature of his work.
Currently, I’m living in a house of talented illustrators, which helps constantly inspire me: @shy_kids @dobbart @gracs_crap @niklondos @elena__artt.
